IKEA bamboo stands become a resonance speaker
Summary
David Kan combines SIGFINN and VIVALLA stands into a sculptural stereo speaker whose thin bamboo surfaces deliberately resonate. The project is called Cremona Duetto. Three IKEA stands are used.
Ideas
- Curved bamboo surfaces act much like the soundboard of an instrument.
- The drivers share a one-piece stereo enclosure.
- Resonance replaces the usual acoustically dead speaker enclosure.
Insights
- Controlled material resonance can become part of sound design.
- Forms borrowed from other purposes open up new acoustic experiments.
Recommendations
- Measure the frequency response and enclosure resonances in the room.
- Secure the drivers mechanically against loosening due to vibration.
