Content-Aware Fill reconstructs missing image areas
Summary
Adobe demonstrates how Content-Aware Fill synthetically replaces marked parts of an image with matching structures from their surroundings. Tools become disruptive when they turn individual manual steps into a controllable selection. Plausible image reconstruction is not a recovery of what actually lay behind an object.
Ideas
- The algorithm searches for similar image fragments outside the area to be filled.
- Texture and edges are assembled iteratively into a plausible continuation.
- Large unwanted objects disappear without manually copying many individual areas.
Recommendations
- Keep the original and carry out reconstructions on a separate layer.
- Label synthetically altered images when documentary value matters.
